Humility
cost us nothing, but earns us an undefinable respect. Most people ignorantly
take humility for stupidity. Some people take them for fool. Some people say
they are weak, sluggish and naive. Let me hint you today, the most humble
people in the society are most times the smartest people. Humility is
simply wisdom.
Have you
ever wondered what it means to be humble? What it takes to be humble? Or is it
even necessary to be humble? Humility is the quality of not thinking that you
are better than other people. Humility goes beyond greeting people or running
errands for them. Humility comes from your heart and not just how to behave
around people. You can choose to obey orders or show respect to others, not
because you want to, but because you might get scolded, which is not meant to
be.
Money, Fame,
Beauty, Position, Age or whatever you've been privileged to have shouldn't make
you to look down on others. Life is full of diversity; we cannot always have
exactly the same thing in life. Because someone is not as good as you are in
what you do doesn't mean they can't be better than you in something else. No
matter how proud a peacock is because of its feathers
, it can never fly as high
as a vulture which is usually referred to as an unattractive bird. We are meant
to complement each other and not compete with each other.
According to
Gani Fawehinmi (SAN), who said "this world is like a looking glass; it
shows you whatever you place in front of it", likewise your attitude
towards people will determine how you will be treated.
Humble
people are not the type that talk out their abilities or capabilities. They are
not the ones that do things for people to notice their presence at all cost.
They aren’t the ones that brag on things they can or cannot do. They don’t
underestimate, belittle or look down on people around them.
Humble
people easily overlook what others would ordinarily not. They observe and
ruminate more on the things going on in their environment. They are the ones
that some up life as nothing but vanity.
Humility
attracts people toward us; pride scares them away. It makes people eager to
help us in time of need. Pride will never let you seek for help even when you
need it badly. It makes you feel no one has a better idea of how to solve your
problem than you, which is why it is usually said that "pride goes before
a fall". People who show respect despite your arrogance are just giving
their honor to the position you hold, not you.
Being humble
does not make you stupid. Choosing not to think you’re better than others with
what you have does not mean you don’t know what you are doing. It simply shows
that you are not controlled and intoxicated by material things. When you look
down on people, you tend to see only their weaknesses. Instead of doing this,
why not try to look up to them for you to be able to see their strength and
learn from it. Stupidity and humility are entirely two different words, which
are not related in any way.
Stupidity is a behavior that shows a lack of
thought or good judgment. Some people might take you for granted when you show
humility towards them but this shouldn't change your personality because not
everyone will think the same way you do. Don't let people's negative attitude
towards you change your positive thinking. Humility is not stupidity.
